Arts Week 2011

This year, the Fine Arts Council is teaming up with the Blanton Museum of Art Student Guild, the Center Space Project at the Visual Arts Center, Hook 'Em Arts, and Landmarks Student Docents to host a week-long celebration of the arts on campus, "For the Love of the Arts!"

Activities are planned February 24th - March 3rd, 2011.

Fine Arts Week

April 6 - 10th will be this year's Fine Arts Week, a week-long program of events spotlighting the College of Fine Arts. This year we plan to hold three luncheons, one in each of CoFA's academic departments, and then one big, joint shindig with food, entertainment, and interaction in the new Co-Op Student Center in the basement of the DFA building (underneath the Fine Arts Library).

The Senate of College Councils is seeking nominations from each College for Senate's Professor of the Year! The most deserving professor will get a thousand bucks.

Fine Arts Council is in charge of selecting the nomination from the College of Fine Arts, and we want input from you! the CoFA students! Please e-mail us with one nominated professor (the one that has changed your life) with a description of why that professor is deserving. We will be selecting the recipient almost exclusively because of your written nomination, so make it good!

This is a big award: the only monetary award that professors can get FROM STUDENTS! We believe this makes it more legitimate than other teaching excellence awards.

Harvest Mandala

1st Annual Harvest Mandala, U.T. Austin, November 5, 2008

Dear Friends,

A new harvest ritual, a partnership event between Freshman students of Living Color - School of Architecture/Interior Design Program, the Fine Arts Council, and Volunteers from the College of Fine Arts, took place on the University of Texas campus in the form of a Harvest Mandala Food Drive.

The goal of the annual event is twofold: to participate in the age old celebration of earth's bounty with a nod to diverse cultural traditions such as the Native American Medicine Wheel and Tibetan sand mandalas, and to raise awareness about the need to end world hunger by being a part of the solution.

Created out of fresh produce, the Harvest Mandala was oriented to the four cardinal directions indicated by colorful design shifts in the fruits and veggies. Students and community were invited to to bring food donations to the day long celebration and to have their pictures taken carrying hand painted signs in support of the Hunger is Unacceptable campaign. Inspire 2 Interact, a campus organization with a mission to bring diverse groups of students together to serve the community in a positive way, and Phi Delta Chi, a fraternity from the School of Pharmacy, merged their Halloween Community Food Drive in a gesture of solidarity.

Many other student organizations participated including Sori-Horn drummers, playing traditional Korean instruments, U.T. Ballet Folklorico, performing traditional dances from Mexico, and the U.T. Dance team.

At sundown, the mandala was dismantled as all food products were donated to the Capital Area Food Bank, which provides grocery products to 355 Partner Agencies in 21 Central Texas counties. Over 1700 pounds of produce, canned goods, and boxed food were generated in the campaign. Heartfelt thanks goes to Central Market N. Lamar, Central Market Westlake , Whole Foods, Randall's Beecaves, Wheatsville Coop, & Sweet Leaf Tea for generous donations of the mandala produce and snacks for volunteers!!!

CALL FOR ARTWORK SUBMISSIONS

The Fine Arts Council will be selecting artwork to be featured in this year's edition of Analecta. Analecta is the official Literary and Arts Journal of the University of Texas and is an entirely student-run publication consisting of poetry, prose (both essays and fiction), dramatic works, and visual arts. Its mission is to produce a journal of art and literature that poignantly reflects the diversity of experience and overwhelming talent present in the UT community.

Any student (undergraduate and graduate) is welcome to submit works of art to be considered for publication but must do so by Monday, November 3rd at 5 pm. Submissions should be in high quality .jpg digital format on a CD and you may enter multiple pieces. Please include with CD a list of works containing the title and medium of artwork. Turn all submissions in to Ramey Guerra in the art building (ART) office 3.334. For more information contact one of the following:

Second, here are some of the amazing new things that we are going to do this year:

Newsletter: Thanks to Anooshey's leadership, we will publish a CoFA newsletter. The goals of the newsletter are to facilitate communication between the three departments of the College of Fine Arts. There will be reviews of shows and articles about current problems/issues/events in the College of Fine Arts.

New Meeting Day: To boost attendance, we have decided to move the meetings to a weekday (stay tuned for exact day and time).

Town Hall Meetings: This is a new program that we want to start. We will facilitate departmental meetings about once a semester to inform the CoFA student body of the big things happening in their department and the whole College of Fine Arts. We will discuss things like how the Ernest Butler Donation to the School of Music will be used. Finally, some exciting things happened in the College of Fine Arts over the summer.

Landmarks Public Art Program: The new minimalist sculptures around campus (on long-term loan from the Met in New York) are the beginning of a new initiative by the college to art educate UT and the surrounding community. So look out for shocking new objects around campus.

DFA Basement re-opens: The waiting is over! Student Affairs, Career Services and our FAC office are now moving downstairs into the new DFA basement. The basement should open next week for student use. There are couches, a big TV, lots of gallery-lit wall space, and O's is installing a food vending location that will be open for breakfast until 4 pm. So we finally have another choice for fast food besides Double Dave's pizza stand! Please use this space once it opens. It is supposed to be a neutral ground for students from all parts of the College of Fine Arts to mingle, which is one of FAC's goals. Our meetings (starting soon) will occur there, in the new conference room downstairs. An opening gala/party is scheduled for mid-September. I'll keep y'all posted on that.

Keep your eyes open for flyers stating when our first information meeting will be. There will be food and you can find out all you need to know about the Fine Arts Council.

This opportunity is especially exciting for Studio Art Undergrads and Grads, though you don't have to be Studio Art majors to submit artwork!

Analecta, UT's student-run literary and art anthology has asked Fine Arts Council and Undergrad Art History Assoc. to help them select artwork for their upcoming issue. Here's where you come in.

If you are interested in submitting your work for selection, please put them in high quality, digital format and burn them to a CD. Then, stop by Shane Sullivan's office (ART 3.340) and drop it off! It's really that easy. The deadline is December 3, 2007. Selected artists will be notified soon after.

If you are interested in helping the selection committee out, just contact either Nicholas Nguyen (nguyen_er@mail.utexas.edu) or Sarah Schultz (sarahschultz@mail.utexas.edu) and let us know! Be aware that if you are a part of the selection committee, you cannot submit work for selection.

FAC Thanksgiving Potluck - At Sunday's meeting will be a potluck dinner for Fine Arts Council members! We will eat while we have our meeting at the usual time and at the usual place; 6 PM in DFA 4.104. If you plan to attend, e-mail Anooshey (anooshey@gmail.com) and let her know what you can bring!

UT Horn Choir - The recital will feature 9 songs, including "O Danny Boy" and "Trios." The event is also free admission, so don't miss this chance! It will start at 4 PM in the Bates Recital Hall. There will also be a live webcast.

University Orchestra - The University Orchestra performs on Tuesday night featuring pieces like "Fugue in G Minor, BWV 578," "L’oiseau de feu," and "Concertino for Flute in D Major, op. 107." Tickets are $5 for students! It starts at 8 PM in the Bates Recital Hall.

Archaeological Institute of America Lecture: Dr. David Stuart - "Professor David Stuart will be giving a talk titled Finding the Maya 'Site Q': A Decade of Discovery and Decipherment at La Corona as part of the Archaeological Institute of America Fall Lecture Series." He will speak at 8 PM in ART 1.110.

Creating Sustainability: Lecture by Randy Jewart - UAHA presents Randy Jewart, founder of Austin Green Art. He will speak at 5 PM in DFA 2.204. There's going to be free food and drink as well as a fun art activity.

Thursday, November 15
Middle Eastern Ensemble - "With guest soloist Neil Blumofe, Hazzan; and ensemble soloists Assem Nasr, voice; Amin Jafarian, voice; Ali Fuat Sengül, voice; Setareh Nematollahi, tar; Sina Najmaei, tanbur; and Ryan McCormack, alto saxophone. Hebrew and Ladino songs performed by Prof. Esther Raizen’s Modern Hebrew language students." Be there by 8 PM in Jessen Auditorium. Free Admission!

Design Open House - "This event is geared for current UT Austin students who are interested in applying to the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Design Program. Facutly and current students in the program will present work and discuss the unique nature of the program." The open house begins at 5:45 PM in ART 1.110. Right after the open house, at 7 PM, the Design division will also show a film, The House of Yes, in the DFA.

Friday, November 16
Longhorn School Bus - Fine Arts Council will be helping out with Longhorn School Bus in the ART building between 10 AM to 1 PM. This event is aimed towards elementary school children, teaching them to appreciate the arts and to explore their interests in the fine arts. If you would like to help out, please contact FAC President Sarah Schultz at sarahschultz@gmail.com.

Caribbean and Mariachi Ensembles - Come listen to music from Spanish speaking areas in the Caribbean and Mexico! The program is free admission, and there is a live webcast here. To experience it live, show up at 8 PM in the Recording Studio, MRH 2.608.

Saturday, November 17
East Austin Studio Tour 2007 - E.A.S.T. is an event that starts at 10 AM until 5 PM and will also occur again on Sunday at the same times. This opportunity allows the public to visit artists' studios to learn more about art and to purchase works they enjoy. There will be over 100 studios open to visit. For more information about E.A.S.T. and studio locations, visit the website.

Festival of Short Plays - "The senior BFA in Theatre Studies students produce a 'Directing the Young Performer' Festival of Short Plays. Directors Dana Thompson, Stacey Volland, Jenna Knapik, Eric Vera and Melody Cooper each direct a 10-15 minute short play. Admission is free! Come out to support our senior students." The event starts at 4 PM in the Laboratory Theater Building.

Collaboration from Conception Opening Reception - "Collaboration from Conception is a look at the process of individual artists combining efforts to create art with a collective idea or common interest in mind. Each of the three dynamic artist groups have a unique history and methodology that dictates the way they realize and then create art." The event starts at 6 PM in the Creative Research Laboratory.

Explore the Arts: Elephant's Graveyard - Fine Arts Council presents another Explore the Arts event, and that means free tickets to see the production of Elephant's Graveyard. We only have a limited amount to give away, so e-mail FAC President, Sarah Schultz for more info at utfineartscouncil@gmail.com. There will be a pre-show talk at 1:30 PM in the WIN 2.112 where you'll pick up your ticket, and the show will start at 2 PM.

The Visiting Artist Program presents Yun-Fei Ji - "The Visiting Artist Program at the Department of Art and Art History Studio Division is pleased to announce Yun-Fei Ji. Ji was raised in China during the Cultural Revolution, fueling his exploration of Chinese contemporary history and issues of modernization." Here his talk and be there at 5:00 PM in ART 1.102.

Dean Search Student Forum - The forum is open to all students. If you've seen any of the dean candidates speak, be especially present and give your thoughts and opinions about the candidates to help the Dean Search Committee give their recommendation. The forum is in DFA 2.204 at 5 PM.

Few, Some, Several, Many, and More... Artist Talk - The artists of the current show at the Creative Research Lab will talk about their thoughts on their work and the idea behind the show. The talk starts at 7 PM inside the CRL (Creative Research Lab).

Wednesday, November 07
Art History Grad School Workshop - "Sponsored by Undergraduate Art History Association in conjunction with Fine Arts Careers Services. Learn about potential career options and hear in-depth information about graduate school in Art History from Dr. Joan Holladay." And there will be food! Be sure to be at DFA 2.204 by 5 PM.

Muslim Students Association Fast-a-thon - Fast from 5:30 AM to 5:30 PM for a great cause! MSA is trying to raise money for the Capital Area Food Bank as a part of a nationwide campaign alongside Muslim Students Associations. To pledge and learn more, please visit the website.

Money for Study Abroad Meeting - This meeting will focus on how you can get funding for study abroad. There will be information about scholarships and financial aid that are available for those who are interested. And there will be free pizza! The meeting is at Parlin Hall, Room 1 from 12 PM to 1 PM.

Thursday, November 08
Trombone Choir - This trombone concert will feature songs like "Ava Maria," "Os Justi," and "Fanfare for the Common Man." This event is also free to students and will begin at 8 PM in the Bates Recital Hall.

Friday, November 09
Elephant's Graveyard Opening Night - "Elephant's Graveyard is the true tale of the tragic collision of a struggling circus and a tiny town in Tennessee. Set in September of 1916, the play combines historical fact and legend, exposing the deep-seated American craving for spectacle, violence and revenge." The show starts at 8 PM in the WIN building. Tickets are $16/$13/$10 and are available at utpac.org or at the door. There will also be a reception event right after the play at 9:30 PM.

Choral Arts Society - This concert is a part of the Center for Sacred Music’s “Choir Organ Series.” Tickets are $17 for the general public and $10 for students. There will also be a live webcast; find out more about it here. The concert is at 8 PM in the Bates Recital Hall.

Guest Artist Recital: Leone Buyse, flute, with Martin Amlin, piano - The guest artist recital features very prestigious musicians, and it is free to the public! To learn more about each musician, check out the website. It will be at 8 PM in the Jessen Auditorium.

Friday, November 02
Ashes, Ashes - "A show for family audiences, Ashes, Ashes tells the story of a power plant, a mythical town and one girl's search for a secret that can possibly save her world. Written by Eve Tulbert; Directed by Dustin Wills." The show opens and plays throughout the weekend and coming week! Tickets are 13$/16$/10$ available at utpac.org or by phone at 512-477-6060. It starts at 8 PM.

Men's and Women's Chorus - This performance will take place at the Bates Recital Hall at 8 PM. For program details and information about the live webcast, check out the website. This is free!

Dance Action Presents: Soles Connect - This student group is going to perform and has also come up with their own choreography. Enjoy the show for free at the Lab Theatre near the Winship. It starts at 8 PM and there will be a repeat show the following day, Saturday, November 03.

Public Lecture: Jack Zipes - "Jack Zipes, internationally-renowned fairy tale scholar, activist, and storyteller, gives a lecture entitled 'And Nobody Lived Happily Ever After: The Feminist Fairy Tale and Its Consequences.' This talk coincides with the opening of Theatre and Dance mainstage production 'Ashes, Ashes.'" The lecture will begin at 2 PM inside WIN 2.112.

Tuesday, October 30
Fine Arts Internship Fair - Tomorrow is the internship fair, so if you are interested in getting a job/internship, show up tomorrow at the Visual Arts Center in ART between 11 AM - 2 PM. Be sure to dress well and bring a resume, or just show up to have a look around.

Visiting Artist: James Welling - James Welling, a photographer, will be speaking tomorrow evening. "Since the late 70s and early 80s, his interest in the meaning and nature of photography has lead him to explore various subjects and photographic techniques." The lecture starts at 5 PM in ART 1.102.

Art21 Screening - UAHA (Undergrad Art History Assoc.) and the Austin Museum of Art are going to be screening the latest episodes of Art21. It will take place at the AMoA between 6-8 PM. There will be food, drinks, and an art activity!

Bach Cantata Project - "The Bach Cantata Project is a joint venture of the UT Choral Program and UT’s Blanton Museum. Performed at noon on the last Tuesday of each month of the fall and spring semesters in the beautiful Blanton Museum atrium, graduate choral conducting majors prepare, rehearse, and conduct these concerts that feature UT student and faculty musicians." Hear the project at the Blanton Museum Atrium at noon.

Professor Slawek and Pandit Anindo Chatterjee will team up to give their third recital of Indian classical music in Bates Recital Hall since 2003. Stephen Slawek is a senior sitar disciple of Pandit Ravi Shankar and a Professor of Ethnomusicology in the School of Music, The University of Texas at Austin. Pandit Anindo Chatterjee is one of the top few virtuosos of the Indian tabla, recognized internationally both for his creative accompaniment and his powerful tabla solos.

Season 4 of Art21 Preview - The Fine Arts Library is presenting two episodes from the 4th season of Art21 back to back. The episodes will be shown in ART 1.102 between 5-7 PM. After that, you can go the next event below!

Drive-In at the VAC - Come see the film, Who the @#$% is Jackson Pollock? Some student films will be also shown. The night's events are sponsored by the Visual Arts Center Advisory Council and us, the Fine Arts Council! Show up at the Visual Arts Center in the Art Building by 7 PM.

"Vibha has its annual run/walk on October 7, 2007, at UT campus. Yes, that is this Sunday. This is our seventh year, and this is the longest running race by a UT student organization.

The Dream Mile is an annual Run/Walk fund-raiser held in several cities across US. Since 2000, The Dream Mile in Austin has been bringing together hundreds of people who have one thing in common the desire to make a positive difference in the lives of underprivileged children.

Proceeds from the event benefit child development projects supported by Vibha in India and Any Baby Can, Austin.

The Dream Mile 2007, Vibha Austin's 7th Annual Run/Walk, promises to be a fun-filled event with something for everyone - students, families, children, seniors, athletes, corporate teams, and other non-profit organizations. The Dream Mile 2007 comes with three new additions: 10K race, certified tracks, and chip timing. LEAP - Leadership Oppurtunity

Leadership Education And Progress (LEAP) is a leadership development program geared for first-year students who who are looking to become stronger leaders. Through an eight-week leadership workshop series during the spring semester, first-year students will interact with student mentors while building a network with other first-year students.

We are currently taking applications for both first year students who are looking for a place to get connected as well as upperclassmen who are current student leaders looking for an opportunity to mentor first-year students and help them learn about leadership opportunities across campus.

Please apply to be a first-year mentee OR a mentor!

Both applications are available in the Student Organization Center (SOC) on the 4th floor of the SSB, at the Texas Union Student Events Center, and on our website at http://studentorgs.utexas.edu/leap/.

New Music Ensemble - "Music of Frank Zappa, Michael Daugherty, Russell Reed, John Lato, and Susan Botti make up this first New Music Ensemble concert of the season." Come enjoy the sounds at McCullough Theatre at 8 PM.

UTLA Informational Session - "Explore a career in the entertainment industry: Live, study and intern in Los Angeles. Open to all majors! Earn UT credit! Fall, Spring or Summer enrollment! Phil Nemy, Director of the UTLA Program, will be on campus to provide information and answer questions. Stop by the table in the Winship Atrium and grab some free pizza while you're there!" Dear Fine Arts Council,

This Sunday is our Fun Day Out! Hooray, this is our time to relax! There will be no regular meeting. Our Fun Day Out will replace our normal 6 o'clock meeting.

WHAT: Fun Day Out! Fine Arts Council is going to the Austin Museum of Art (AMOA)to see the "Extra-Ordinary: The Everyday Object in American Art" exhibition as a group and afterwards we will go to Peace Park to grill hot dogs (we have tofu).

T&D Needs Volunteers for UIL Conference!

Dear T & D Undergrads,

Want to be a part of something big? This is a great opportunity to help a UT program that gives high schoolers the opportunity to learn about our department and have a great experience! I am coordinating volunteers for the Fall 2007 UIL Super Conference and need people to spend a few hours of their time to make this event happen. University Interscholastic League is a huge deal for Texas high schoolers. Every fall, a conference is held at UT for students from across the state to attend. These students really look forward to the event, which can only happen with the help of volunteers -- YOU!

I will need volunteers to assist with set up and breakdown of workshop classrooms in the Winship building, which includes hanging signs, putting out refreshments, and distributing brochures. I will also need a volunteer in each room as well as hall monitors. These jobs are very easy and I think it would be a nice experience for anyone who partakes in this event. All volunteers can attend the workshops led by graduate students, so it is a great opportunity to learn more about theatre!

The conference takes place at the Winship Drama Building on Saturday, October 13 with two shifts: 7:30 AM-10:30 AM and 10:30 AM-2:00 PM. Please email me directly if you can spare a few hours to a great program and let me know which shift you can do, or if you can be an All-Star and do both.

03 | Starting next meeting, FAC's Vice Presidents will have a short meeting with members of their department before the general FAC meeting. These VP meetings will allow you to come to your VP with issues and ideas while allowing your VP to give you information that may be more relevant to you rather than the whole FAC membership. These VP meetings will start at 6, and the FAC meeting will start after that.

Rapid Fire Slide Show - This slide show goes along with the art Faculty Salon Show at the CRL from 7-9 PM. The event hosts participating artists' bodies of works in 4 minutes or less.

WANTED: Artists to display works in Bates Recital Hall

For: The first concert of the UT Symphony Orchestra

When: Oct. 1, 7:30-10:30pm

My name is Renee Gilliland, I am a senior music studies major with the Fine Arts
Council. I play viola in the UT Symphony Orchestra conducted by Maestro
Zimmerman, and our first concert is scheduled for Oct. 1, at 8pm in Bates
Recital Hall. We will be performing a work by John Corigliano (composer of the
Red Violin), a Shostakovich String Symphony, and Mussorgsky's Pictures at an
Exhibition.

Mussorgsky wrote this piece from the inspiration of a posthuous showing of his
friend Viktor Hartmann's drawings, paintings, and designs. He also wrote music
to represent a viewer walking from work to work. Because this piece represents
MUSIC INSPIRED BY ART, we would LOVE to have artists display works before the
concert, at intermission and a little after the concert.

The art may be paintings, sculpture or anything that can be feasibly shown. A
brief description of the work should be displayed along with the artist's name.
We hope that while people are mingling and purchasing tickets, they will be able
to enjoy quality art before the concert and return to look at intermission.

Maestro Zimmerman and the UT Fine Arts are very excited about this. We would be
very grateful for your participation.

Any interested artists should contact me and let me know what kind of work, the
size, and a brief description.

FAC Needs a Logo!

On September 16th's meeting, we decided it was time for FAC to have a logo to use on letterheads, t-shirts, and the like. Those who attended the meeting decided that we should hold a contest.

Everyone within the College of Fine Arts is invited to submit their design that represents the Fine Arts Council - we should have the best and creative logo out there! There are still details to be sorted out around this contest, but start coming up with great ideas.

Please e-mail ideas/submissions to our Financial Director, Melissa Wyatt at melissa.wyatt@mail.utexas.edu. Oh, and coming to meetings on Sundays at 6 PM in DFA 4.104 is a great way to sell your design to us, too. ;)

Friday to Sunday, September 21-23 - The Magic Flute - Watch the show between 8-10 PM on Friday & Saturday, and on Sunday, watch between 7-10 PM.

FAC Informational Meeting a Success!

Sunday evening's Informational Meeting was a success with students from all departments within the College of Fine Arts came to hear what the Fine Arts Council was all about. Members of all CoFA groups were also invited to attend to learn more about the council objectives. The FAC aims to make student groups within the CoFA recognized and aims to aid them in obtaining resources for activities and programs.

Above, FAC President Sarah Schultz opens the meeting up for new and returning members. She spoke about FAC's role for the students of the CoFA, talking about how the council can help facilitate student programs and assist them with problems they may encounter during their time here.

Sarah then handed the platform over to Tim Creswick, VP for Art & Art History. He spoke about FAC events and relationship to the CoFA. Afterwards, VP of Theatre & Dance, Sara Povlish, talked about more FAC events and services as well as its involvement in Senate. Last, Katelyn Horn (right), VP of Music, spoke about why FAC is important and why students should get involved.

Each VP also reflected on why they joined FAC. Reasons included a strong bond and friendship between members, the ability to participate in leadership roles, and the ability to have their voices and opinions heard by Deans and other important figures in education.

At the end, students were welcome to socialize with officers and older members while enjoying free pizza and drink. More pictures to come! And remember, weekly meetings are Sundays at 6PM in DFA 4.104 (upstairs in the Fine Arts Library).

Fine Arts Council is hosting its first Informational Party/Meeting of the semester on Sunday, September 9, 6pm in WIN 1.108! Come and learn about who we are and what we do to represent undergraduate students (that's you) over a tasty slice of pizza and soda. yum.

Yes, that's right. We do indeed have a room reserved! Hurrah! September 3 is Labor Day. I know many of you may be busy. I tried to make it early enough so that you would still be able to go to your BBQ and such in the evening. DFA 4.104 will be our permanent meeting place. Regularly, we would meet on Sunday at 6pm in DFA 4.104, however, the meeting this Monday will take place of the regular Sunday meeting. THERE IS NO MEETING SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 2. Our next meeting is scheduled for Monday, SEPTEMBER 3 from 4-5 at DFA 4.104.

New Student Welcome for Theatre and Dance students, Sept. 6 at 5 in the atrium

Theatre and Dance "Departmental Welcome Party" aka the "mandatory party" is scheduled for Thursday, September 6 from 5-7PM. FAC is tabling at the event to promote our organization & educate new students as to what we're about in an effort to get them involved.

We need volunteers!

Tables will be available beginning at 4 PM in the atrium. Students will begin to visit the tables as early as 5:30. You are welcome to set up the table and walk away until the students begin to arrive.

FAC's poster will be on the table. Please feel free to decorate the table in whatever way you wish, bring handouts, sign up sheets, etc. When the event ends at 7, it would be great if you could remove the signs and clean up the area.

Please feel free to eat at your table. The food will be set up about 5:15, so if you want to eat prior to student traffic, feel free to do so.

New Student Welcome at 6pm in the Fine Arts Library on Tuesday, 8/28

All freshmen entering the College of Fine Arts are invited to a New Student Welcome at 6pm on Tuesday, August 28 in the Fine Arts Library for karaoke and pizza. Blanton Student Guild and Fine Arts Council will be there to answer any questions freshmen might have and tell them about our organization. We will tell them about the events with which we are involved every semester such as Longhorn Schoolbus, Faculty-Student Mixer, Explore the Arts, Fine Arts Internship and Career Networking Fair, Texas Exes Teaching Awards, etc. To the left is a piece by a fifth-grader from Zavala Elementary school who attended FAC led Longhorn Schoolbus. Fine Arts Council members introduced his class to the wonders of CoFA. This included a tour or graduate studios, concert halls, discussion about instruments and demonstration.

I am pleased to announce that Fine Arts Council's first official meeting will
take place this SUNDAY, AUGUST 26, 2007 at 4 PM in the BASEMENT of the Doty
Fine Arts Building (DFA), our usual place that is next to the Career Services
office. Note the time change! Meet at FOUR O'CLOCK rather than 6, when we
regularly meet. I made the time earlier so that people are not starving when
the meeting ends.

If you have never been to a Fine Arts Council (FAC) meeting, then this is your
chance to start anew! Many exciting things are happening for FAC. This Sunday
we will be introducing our brilliant new officers and talking about the upcoming
semester. Dean Dempster recently put us in charge of allocating a substantial
budget for Art students organizations. If you are a student in the College of
Fine Arts, we want your input. Members of other art organizations will NOT
want to miss this meeting. Hope to see you there!
